Obesity represents a chronic inflammatory disease, which functionally determines a pro-inflammatory macrophage (Mφ) phenotype within the affected organism. Adipose tissue-activated Mφ cause severe wound healing disorders in obese mice. Our project investigates endoplasmic reticulum-mediated functional roles of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the activation of pro-inflammatory signaling pathways in Mφ, as this organelle enables the integration of metabolic conditions and pathways of innate immunity.
